Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

The ICT Excellence Awards 2008 ceremony will take place in the O’Reilly Hall, UCD on the 1st of May 2008. Currently in its eight year, this is Ireland’s most prestigious and respected awards competition in the ICT sector, where the outstanding achievers in the Irish ICT marketplace will be recognised.

Talent Partners is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the “Best IT Company” to work for in the 2008 awards. This award recognises the ICT organisation that can demonstrate, through it’s training and human resources policy, evidence of employee satisfaction and growth.

The company’s shortlisted for this, all other awards, will be announced in mid April and we look forward to presenting the award to this years winner at the award ceremony on the 1st of May. To find out more about the awards please log on to www.ictexcellenceawards.ie.

My best friend the recruiter!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

I recently had the pleasure of being a panel member for a business discussion at the Irish Web Technology conference www.irishdev.com. As the only recruiter on the panel, which consisted of technology gurus a Fianna Fail TD and myself, I found myself being forced to defend our profession. Comparisons were made between recruiters, used car salesmen & estate agents, which weren’t very flattering. The general perception was that the industry seems to charge outrageous fees with little or no service and added value being seen by the Client and/or Candidate.

In truth I had to agree with some of my fellow panel members’ viewpoints which were borne out by their experiences. However I also offered some suggestions, whether you are working in a company looking to hire key performers to strengthen your team and help you achieve your business goals or you are an employee with a strong track record of success in your career to date, get to know 1-2 executive recruiters and build a business relationship with them.

Share with them your business or career goals and aspirations and have them scout the best opportunities or talent in the marketplace for you. Don’t spread yourself too broadly, and manage the relationship with the recruiter. Keep in touch on a regular basis via phone or email. Update them on recent changes or developments in your role or company. Let the image they paint of you or your organisation be the best possible image. Treat them as a business partner as opposed to a necessary evil. You will be amazed at how your perception of the industry will change!
